Varivent is a step-less, variable venturi EGR pump for turbo-charged diesels that optimizes efficiency by recirculating cooled exhaust gas back into the engine air intake on demand. The result is a lower combustion temperature and so less NOx.

Varivent is designed to meet present and forthcoming legislation in Europe, Japan and the USA governing levels of nitrous oxide emissions with high efficiency (>90%) and low fuel consumption and without the need for after-treatment techniques or additives.

The design is based on the well-established venturi principle which allows most of the static pressure to be recovered downstream of the exhaust inlet before the gaseous mixture enters the cylinder. The pressure at the throat of the venturi can be altered by changing the shape of the aerodynamically-shaped body, which results in outstanding fuel economy.

Step-less linear motion is achieved through the use of an electric actuator controlled by an ECU integrated into the unit. The design is robust, reliable and cost-efficient, with no service requirement during the life of the engine.
