Haldex Concentric shows pump technology at IAA Hannover

08 July 2008

Haldex Concentric will be exhibiting its range of technologies for diesel engines, transmissions and compressors, including oil, water and fuel transfer pumps, on stand D27 in Hall 13 at IAA 2008 in Hanover from 25 September to 2 October.

Among the highlights of the stand will be Haldex's Varivent EGR technology, the Alfdex oil mist separator and the Concentric variable flow oil pump, which is due to come into service on the next generation of platforms. This revolutionary design uses significantly less power than conventional geared pumps, providing immediate fuel savings as well as offering the potential for a more energy-efficient oil system.

Varivent works by stimulating gas flow from the exhaust manifold to the higher pressure of the inlet, making the EGR rate independent of charge pressure. The variable venturi optimises the EGR rate whilst minimising the restrictive effects on air or gas flow characteristic of alternative methods, so offering improved fuel consumption. The system is extremely robust, incorporates few moving parts and is suitable for all turbo-charged diesels.

Like the Varivent, Afldex is a “fit and forget” design, requiring no maintenance or servicing throughout the engine's life. It uses a centrifugal separator to remove oil droplets and soot from the vent gas and return them to the sump. Designed for diesel engines from 5 to 16 litres, Alfdex operates from -40°F to + 266°F, achieving an efficiency of 98% in normal driving conditions and a life expectancy of 20,000 hours or 600,000 miles.

In addition, the Haldex Concentric stand will feature a full range of diesel engine pumps, integrated front cover assemblies, lubrication pumps for transmissions and reciprocating compressors and fans for engine and other applications.

Concentric was acquired by Haldex AB in in February 2008 and is now part of the group's Hydraulics Division. The division is a major supplier to the world’s truck, agricultural and construction equipment industries, with manufacturing facilities in Germany, Sweden, the USA, China and India as well as at the divisional headquarters in Birmingham, UK.
